Blog 10: Natl.Mus Mexican art Blogs

Image result for national museum of mexican art day of the dead

At the national museum of Mexican art, the museum have the special collection of the Day of the Dead. Most of that collection are paintings about the dead. I am especially interested about that Mexicans use symbols and  special material to represent the dead. As we all know, to go to the grave is always sad, but some of the painting is actually shows that Mexicans sing and dance in that holiday.

#12 AIC Webhunt Blogs

Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler
I think the AIC website is 4. The best part of the website is the organization. I can clearly search the information I need. The website have the photocopy of every single artwork they have, and they put them in different styles. I chose the Picasso's painting in my collection. That work is a typical cubism art work. It located in the modernist area. I can also search the artwork by the artist. I see that the art institution have plenty of artwork worldwide.

Cultural Center

Tom Denlinger: Ekstatic Edgewater (Photo credit: Tom Denlinger, Elmdale 19, 2016. Courtesy of the artist)We went to the Chicago Culture Center some day. The building was originally designed as a library. It contains two domes with glass. The Spectacular Vernacular used the simple items in our life as a present of art. displaying them as a art instead what we see before. The Ektstatic Edgewater is the most interesting art displayed for me. It is showed on the right side. I think it is made with iron and cut some pieces off the board to make it an art. The 3,400 pillows is a project about the immigrates. It is a ongoing project. They are trying to make that much of pillows as a symbol of the protection of immigrates.

The first one is created by the shape. I use different tones to show the difference. It also shows that the shape can be switched. and show different emotions.

The second one is created by line. I realized that if I can make the line grow huge and it became a shape.

Water Taxi & Chicago Architecture

During the Water Taxi trip, The most remarkable architecture is the 333 west Wacker. It's shaped like a sector. The two colored windows reflect the river, the buildings, and the sky. By looking at it, people can imagine the whole Chicago.

Through the trip, I was amazed by different architecture styles, and they are all in the loop. Since the foundation of Chicago, architects using all the techniques to build buildings here. It is well known that the mid-US is ugly because it is flat everywhere. However, the architectures in Chicago did show the people around the world that Art exist everywhere.

favorite color

My favorite color is black and white. It is because the color is so simple that sometimes they cannot be understand clearly. The mixture of them create a mystery, like my visual project #2. These two color contract against each other but also connect with each other. Additionally, white paint is nothing while black paint is mix of all three colors. Guernica is an example of the white and black painting.

The center  is not in the center of the painting instead it is in the left side of the center. The color around the point is followed the similar pattern, while the left bottom yellow stands out.

Artist Project #1 (Pablo Picasso)

Visual Project 2: Shadow Hunt

Shadow in the shadow

I have no idea where I got the idea of that picture. I took the picture of my "jewelry" and its shadow. You can tell from the bright spots from it that the light is coming from the side of the shadow instead of my camera. I also post how I took the picture below.

Architectural Experience

Image result for building like monster
In my childhood, I usually went to my grandparents' house. My father took me home in the same way every evening. However, one day, he chose another way, and I meet the scariest thing in my whole life. It is a monster. I still member how the "monster" looks like. It really has a big square head, and huge arms like waving to me. it seems like 40 meters high. I was so scared that I ran home as soon as possible. The other day, I left early before the sun goes down, so I could see that monster again. Sadly, it is just a building belongs to the mine company.

Blog assignment for week 2 9/7/16

The Old Guitarist 1904

One of the fascinating paintings I prefer to present is The Old Guitarist by Pablo Picasso in 1903-1904. It is exhibited in the Art Institute of Chicago. I select it because it was designed by Picasso in his early years, the blue period. It attracted me because it is more like a classic painting instead of the cubism painting afterwards like Girl with a Mandolin (although Girl with a Mandolin was only painted 6 years later). I consider Picasso's works presenting us the momentous change between the classic and modern art during the 1900s. I like the most about this painting is that Picasso clearly describe the inner emotions of the guitarist ,which is sadness and helpless, from his face.
